  • 2020 CODE CHANGES

TWO NEW CODE UPDATES THAT WILL AFFECT YOUR FACILITY

2020 NEC 408.6

  • Code Requirement: All Switchboards, Switchgear and Panelboards shall have the available fault current and the date the calculation was performed field marked on the equipment
  • Explanation: With the new 2020 NEC code update, a short circuit study will need to be performed at your facility and most of the electrical equipment will need a new "Available Fault Current" label

IEEE 1584 2018

Code Requirements:

  • Most equipment rated 240V or less now require an Arc Flash label
  • New Complex, Arcing Fault Equations
  • Electrode Configuration is now considered in calculations

Explanation:

  • With the new IEEE 1584 update, Arc Flash studies are more complex and additional information is required in order to accurately model the facilities distribution system.
  • Arc Flash studies are required to be reviewed every five years or whenever there are significant changes. Most Arc Flash Studies will need to be reviewed and updated for compliance.

Contact EDA today for a free consultation, and verify your facilities compliance with these changes
